Americans for Prosperity Illinois will host a public event titled “One Small Step” on Thursday, February 12, in Springfield as part of a national observance connected to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.

The event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bank of Springfield Center, 1 Convention Center Plaza. Organizers note the location is just blocks from the Abraham Lincoln Home, and the date coincides with the anniversary of Lincoln’s birth.

According to AFP Illinois, the evening will focus on reflecting on the ideas that shaped the nation and encouraging civic engagement moving forward. The program will include food, drinks, guest speakers, and activities for children, making it a family-friendly event.

Featured speakers include Brian Urlacher, a Pro Football Hall of Famer who spent his entire 13-season career with the Chicago Bears and is regarded as one of the franchise’s most accomplished defensive players. Also appearing is Jason Chaffetz, who represented Utah’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives and later served as chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee before becoming a Fox News contributor. Joining them is Mary Katharine Ham, a journalist and political commentator who has written for multiple national outlets and regularly appears as a Fox News contributor.

The event is open to the public, but advance registration is required.
