Arts Center Presents Sensory-Friendly Performances

The UIS Performing Arts Center is gearing up for an exciting season, catering to diverse audiences with the return of their sensory-friendly performances and the Date Night Series.


The sensory-friendly performances, carefully curated for individuals who are neurodivergent, ensure a comfortable experience without dramatic sensory changes. Artistic Programs Director Carly Shank expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "Everyone can feel more welcome in our smaller venue without overwhelming lighting or sound changes."


1. Experience Folk Dance - November 15, 6:30 pm

Witness the Springfield International Folk Dancers as they showcase captivating German couple dances and foot-tapping Balkan line dances. The vibrant costumes and music from distinct regions are sure to leave you enchanted.


2. Experience Joyful Music with Dan & Claudia Zanes - February 27, 6:30 pm

Grammy Award-winning Dan Zanes and jazz vocalist Claudia Zanes present an all-ages social music extravaganza. Prepare to dance and sing along in an exuberant and educational atmosphere.


The UIS Date Night Series is another highlight, featuring skilled local artists in the intimate UIS Studio Theatre. Treat yourself and your date to an unforgettable evening with a variety of performances:


1. Date Night with Mother Road Bones - September 16, 6:30 pm

Enjoy the versatile trombone quartet, Mother Road Bones, as they play music ranging from Classical and Jazz to Broadway and Pop.


2. Date Night with Improv - September 22, 6:30 pm

Capital City Improv guarantees a laughter-filled night with favorite short-form improv games.


3. Date Night with Jazz - October 5, 6:30 pm

The Groove Merchants, led by UIS music faculty and talented Chicago-based musicians, will celebrate jazz in all its glory.
