August Brings Fair, Music and History

Springfield’s August calendar features live music, theater, Illinois State Fair Grandstand concerts and local history events as summer heads into its final full month.

The month’s music lineup begins Aug. 7, when Everclear is scheduled to perform at Danenberger Family Vineyards. A week later, The Hoogland Center for the Arts will host “Outraged” on Aug. 14.

The Illinois State Fair Grandstand will become a major entertainment draw in the middle of the month. Visit Springfield’s calendar lists Bailey Zimmerman performing Aug. 14, Lainey Wilson on Aug. 15 and Matchbox Twenty on Aug. 16 at the Grandstand.

More Grandstand concerts are scheduled the following weekend. Ella Langley is listed for Aug. 21, and Shinedown is scheduled for Aug. 23. The Illinois State Fair’s Grandstand page notes that fair admission is not included in the price of a Grandstand ticket.

Theater will also be part of the late-August calendar. “Hairspray!” is listed at The Hoogland Center for the Arts on Aug. 21 and Aug. 28.

History and heritage programming will continue Aug. 22 with “250 Years of Fashion: Historical Fashion Show” at Edwards Place. The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. and is being held in recognition of the 250th anniversary of the United States, with models displaying fashions spanning more than two centuries.

The month also includes the 34th Annual Powerlight Festival at the Lincoln Stage on Aug. 23 at the Illinois State Fair Grand Central Stage. Visit Springfield lists the event from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

From Grandstand concerts to local theater and history programming, August will bring one of the busiest stretches of the summer event season in Springfield.
