The Greater Springfield Chamber Foundation, the 501(c)3 charitable arm of The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, has announced plans to provide an annual scholarship to a full-time student within the College of Business at the University of Illinois Springfield.
The $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a junior, senior or graduate student beginning with the 2023-2024 academic year. The first award will be announced in June 2023.
The student must be enrolled full-time during the academic year for which the scholarship is awarded, maintain a “B” average or higher in business subjects and declare a major or minor in any of the disciplines within UIS’ College of Business. Applications are due April 30, 2023, and will be available at www.uis.edu.
“The Chamber and UIS have always had a strong relationship,” stated Mike Murphy, President & CEO of The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce. “Creating this scholarship is an example of how the local business community appreciates UIS and their great business program. Our scholarship will provide an opportunity for someone completing their education to be a little less stressed on financial obligations prior to entering the business world.”
The Chamber provided seed funding for the scholarship, which it hopes to build upon in order to offer additional scholarships in future years. Organizations or individuals interested in contributing to the scholarship fund should mail a check, payable to “Greater Springfield Chamber Foundation,” to the Chamber office at 501 E. Capitol, Suite A, Springfield, IL 62701. Contributions are tax-deductible.
