Residents in need of a passport will have an opportunity to apply locally this weekend thanks to a special community event hosted by VFW Post 755 and the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office.
Passport agents from the Circuit Clerk’s Office will process applications on Saturday, September 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at VFW Post 755, located at 2211 Old Jacksonville Road in Springfield. Standard federal passport fees will apply, and current processing times can be found at travel.state.gov.
“VFW Post 755 is pleased to host this opportunity for our community. We are excited to work with the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office to offer this service on Saturday,” said Josh Seed, Commander of VFW Post 755.
Circuit Clerk Joe Roesch encouraged area residents to take advantage of the convenient event. “We are pleased to partner with local government, banks, and merchants to provide community outreach events,” Roesch said. “Through these events, we hope to make the process of applying for a passport more convenient for everyone.”
Applicants attending the event must bring a certified copy of their birth certificate (not a photocopy or hospital certificate), a valid photo ID, an approved passport photo—photos can be taken on-site if needed—any certified court orders related to name changes, custody, or adoption decrees, and two checks or money orders to cover all fees.
Those unable to attend can still apply for a passport in person at the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding weekends and court holidays. More information is available at www.sangamonpassports.org or by calling the Circuit Clerk’s passport office at 217-747-5183.
