On October 30, 2024, Sangamon County Deputies arrested Samantha Witty on a domestic battery charge. During her intake at the county jail, a routine body scan detected an object resembling a bottle in her genital area. Witty denied possessing any contraband, but during a subsequent pat-down, an item wrapped in plastic fell from her pant leg.

A correctional officer examined the item, finding a white substance wrapped in the plastic. The officer secured the substance in a sealed bag but soon experienced shortness of breath. Observing the officer’s condition, jail staff quickly administered NARCAN to counter potential drug exposure. The officer was then transported to the hospital, where he received treatment and was later released.

Field testing confirmed the substance as fentanyl. Additional charges against Witty are pending as the investigation continues.
