County Approves Bid for Phase Two of Sheriff's Evidence Storage Facility

On Tuesday, the Sangamon County Board approved a responsible low bid from RD Lawrence for the construction and renovation of the Sangamon South Complex for phase two of the new Sheriff's Evidence Storage Facility. The move of the current evidence storage was necessary due to the Springfield Rail Relocation project.

The $4.6 Million approved project is the latest step in renovating the former State Journal-Register Building, purchased by the County in October 2021, saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars compared to building new. Now referred to as Sangamon South, current plans for the building include the Sheriff's Evidence Storage Facility, the County Coroner's Office, and Forensic Lab.
