Sangamon County Sheriff's Deputy Travis Koester is being called a hero by many for actions that saved two elderly women from an apartment fire late last month. Deputy Koester saw smoke and flames at a business on South MacArthur Boulevard, and quickly realized a second-story apartment. Koester was able to make entry and rescue two women before the Springfield Fire Department arrived on the scene. The Springfield Fire Department extinguished the flames before they spread to neighboring properties.
