Detectives with the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division arrested Ronald D. Beavers, 36, of the 1000 block of North Wesley, Springfield. Investigators believe Beavers was involved in numerous instances of burglary, scrap metal theft, and criminal damage to property.
On August 14 at approximately 11:00 a.m., Beaver’s vehicle was located parked behind a business in the 2400 block of South MacArthur. Units from the Sheriff’s Office and Springfield Police Department responded to the area. Beavers was located and taken into custody. A second suspect, Bryant A. Simon, 33, of the 1000 block of North Wesley, was also arrested a short distance away. Beavers and Simon are currently charged with two separate burglaries and thefts that occurred to abandoned buildings in the 1600 block and 2600 block of South MacArthur.
Beavers is a suspect in additional crimes related to scrap/precious metal thefts. Beavers’ bond is set at $100,000 and Simon’s bond is set at $50,000.
Beavers has 23 prior arrests, including arrests for larceny, drugs, weapons, burglary, and criminal damage. He is currently out on bond and awaiting trial on two separate 2022 felony cases in Sangamon County for theft and possession of methamphetamine. Simon has 20 prior arrests, including assault, larceny, drugs, and burglary.
The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the numerous scrap/precious metals thefts in the area and hopes to identify and charge other suspects in relation to these crimes.
