Sangamon County officials announced a major expansion planned for the current Public Health Building. Adding over 11,000 sq feet and a permanent drive thru structure, the upgraded Community Services Building will be a one-stop shop for many community assistance programs, workforce training, and medical needs.

Linda Fulgenzi, Chairwoman of the Community Resources Committee, said, " Community Resources, Public Health, and the Land of Lincoln Workforce Alliance provide countless services to our residents. When this building upgrade is complete, the many residents who need assistance from all three departments will be able to do so more efficiently. This is another example of the County improving the quality of service we provide."
Construction on the project is expected to begin in 2023, with completion in mid to late 2024. Services to be provided in the renovated building include Energy and Sewer Assistance Programs, Weatherization, Housing/Rent Assistance, GED Assistance, Job Training, Job Search Services, Public Health Services, Healthy Family Programs, and Opioid Assistance/ Naloxone Distribution.
Sangamon County Board Member Vera Small said, " The location of the Health Department building is perfectly located to assist the most medically underserved district in our County. Expanding community resources and workforce training in the same location will undoubtedly have a positive impact for many of my constituents on the East Side of Springfield."
