Clyde E. Bunch, 88, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the Bridge Care Suites.
He was born January 17, 1936 to Robert and Goldie (Painter) Bunch. He married Ruth A. Squires on November 9, 1953 in Springfield. He was preceded by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Catherine Bunch DeFreitas; grandson, Scottie; great-great-granddaughter, Mila Stieren; four brothers and four sisters.
Clyde served in the Army National Guard and was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and Eagles Club. He worked as Superintendent with the Springfield Department of Public Health, retiring after 30 years of service. He served on the Sangamon County Board for 46 years, making him the longest elected county board member. He also served 6 years with the Comptroller Mayor Commission, 20 years with Walk Through The Park for St. Martin De Porres and 15 years with Friend-In-Deed. He volunteered for Make-A-Wish Foundation and Cancer Relay Walk for Life.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Stevie, C.J., Jason and April; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Ariel, Jastine, Bella, Abby and Chad, Jr.; great-great-grandchildren, Kammy, Elijah, Lucas, Lilah, Aria, Ariana, G’annii, Garland, Mateo and Gelaiyah; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2024, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Reverend David Gessaman officiating. A graveside service will follow in Auburn Cemetery.
