Death Investigation Underway at Southwind Park

Authorities are conducting a death investigation following an incident at Southwind Park on Thursday.

Police responded to the scene and assisted visitors in leaving the park, which was temporarily closed for the remainder of the day. Patrick Murphy, Chief of the Springfield Park District Police Department, later confirmed that the scene had been cleared and the park has since reopened.

The case is currently classified as a death investigation. Officials have indicated that the death does not appear to be the result of criminal misconduct.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning. The identity of the deceased will be released following notification of next of kin.The investigation is being handled by the Springfield Park Police and the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office.
