The upcoming general election in Illinois is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8th. Sangamon County is currently seeking Election Judges for several precincts throughout the County.
The Election Judge plays a critical role in our democratic process. In the polling place, the judges are responsible for ensuring that the electoral process is administered fairly and in accordance with Federal and State election laws.
County Clerk Don Gray encouraged residents to get involved, "Help us properly service voters and uphold the integrity of our election system. Serving as an Election Judge is a tough, but critical job. Sangamon County is blessed to have the best Judges in the State, and we hope to add more recruits for the November election. "
Election Judges are paid $200 for the day and must meet a few requirements; Be a citizen of the United States and entitled to vote at the next election **except for students at least 16 years old; be of good repute and character; be able to speak, read and write the English language;be skilled in the four fundamental rules of arithmetic ; be of good understanding and capable; not be a candidate for any office at the election; have access to a car and cell phone on election day.
The polls are open from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Judges are required to report at the polling place in which they are serving by 5:00 a.m. and must remain until after the polls close.
