The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s help in identifying those responsible for the October 9, 2025 homicides on Hoover Street, announcing a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Deputies responded to the residence that night after receiving a report of a shooting and discovered three deceased individuals inside the home, including 9-year-old Cash Russell. The Sheriff’s Office continues to lead the investigation, with the FBI Springfield Field Office providing support and resources as authorities work to determine who was involved.

Cash’s mother, Dorothy Jackson, described her son as a child who cared deeply for his family and found joy in building, creating, and immersing himself in play. She said he loved to sing, looked out for his brothers, and often spent hours making slime, playing video games, or constructing elaborate worlds out of blocks. She urged anyone with information to step forward, saying no family should have to endure the loss of a child and that any detail could help identify those responsible.

Sheriff Paula Crouch emphasized the importance of community cooperation, noting that investigators have worked continuously since the incident and believe there are individuals who may know critical information. “Justice for the victims depends on all of us,” she said. “Our investigators are working tirelessly, and we need the community’s help. If you have any information, no matter how small, please reach out. Your help can bring closure to the families and make our neighborhoods safer. We believe there are people in the community who know important details about this case, or the individuals involved. Together, we can find the answers needed to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”

FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher J.S. Johnson called the killings a devastating act of violence that deeply affected the community. He said the FBI is committing significant investigative resources to the case and remains focused on bringing accountability to those involved.

Anyone with information related to the homicides is encouraged to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit tips online at TIPS.FBI.GOV. Authorities say the investigation remains active and that no additional details are being released at this time.
