A tragic medical emergency claimed the life of an infant in Springfield on Thursday afternoon. At approximately 12:53 p.m. on September 4, Sangamon County Sheriff’s Deputies and medical personnel responded to a home in the 3300 block of Normandy Road after receiving a report of an eight-month-old child who was incoherent and experiencing labored breathing.
Emergency responders, including fire and EMS crews, immediately began life-saving measures upon arrival. The child was quickly transported to St. John’s Hospital, where medical staff continued efforts to stabilize the infant. Despite the swift response and extensive attempts to save the child’s life, the infant was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that there is no indication of foul play in the incident. However, as is standard in cases involving the sudden death of a child, the matter remains under investigation. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office are working closely with the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office to determine the exact circumstances leading to the medical emergency.
Authorities have not released additional details at this time. Updates are expected as the investigation progresses and more information becomes available.
