Investigation Ongoing After Shots Fired in Pawnee

Authorities responded to a report of gunfire in Pawnee on the evening of September 3. At approximately 6:00 p.m., officers from the Pawnee and Auburn Police Departments, along with deputies from the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, were dispatched to the 1000 block of Carrol Street following reports of shots fired.
According to law enforcement, the victim, a white male in his 30s, told investigators he was standing in the street when a suspect approached him on foot and fired multiple rounds in his direction. The victim was not injured, and the suspect, described as a white male in his 20s, fled the area on foot.
The Pawnee Police Department requested assistance from the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division, and detectives were sent to the scene. Detectives processed evidence, interviewed witnesses, and searched multiple residences in Pawnee in an effort to locate the suspect, though no arrest has yet been made.
Officials have stated they believe this was an isolated incident directed toward a specific individual and that there is no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation remains active as detectives continue to collect evidence and speak with witnesses.
