On June 29, 2024, at approximately 12:02 a.m., Springfield Police responded to the 3000 block of Shadowfax in response to a 911 call indicating someone had been stabbed. Upon arrival, officers located a 51-year-old female with multiple stab wounds.
The victim was transported to Springfield Memorial Hospital for treatment but did not survive. Also located on the scene was the victim’s 16-year-old son.
Springfield Police detectives and crime scene arrived on scene to investigate the incident and process evidence. The 16-year-old male juvenile was transported to the Springfield Police Department and was ultimately arrested for first-degree murder, aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery, and unlawful use of a weapon. He was transported to a juvenile detention facility.
Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed the death of 51-year-old Misty Long of Springfield. Preliminary findings of the autopsy suggest the deceased died from multiple sharp force injuries.
16-year-old Jonathan Long appeared in Sangamon County Court Monday, charged with First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Domestic Battery. Lane pled not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutors allege Johnathon Long stabbed his mother, Misty Long, more than 100 times. Sangamon County Associate Judge Christopher Perrin denied the defense's motion for pre-trial release.
