Land of Lincoln Honor Flight #68

Land of Lincoln Honor Flight (LLHF) will embark on its Mission #68 on August 22. Comprising 2 Korean-era veterans and 91 Vietnam era veterans, the group will meet at Springfield Abraham Lincoln Capitol Airport from 54 Illinois towns. Early that Tuesday, 93 veterans and 86 Guardians gathered at 4:00 AM, boarding a chartered Sun Country 737 aircraft bound for Washington DC.

The veterans' itinerary includes visits to the World War II, Korean, and Vietnam War memorials, Arlington National Cemetery's Tomb of the Unknowns, the Lincoln Memorial, the National Air & Space Museum, the US Marine Corps Memorial, and the US Air Force Memorial. All without any cost to the veterans.

Joan Bortolon, LLHF President, said, "Our senior veterans deserve our gratitude, and it's our privilege to offer this day of thanks absolutely free. It's our turn to give back."

Returning at 9:30 PM, these heroes will receive a warm welcome from the public, friends, family, and LLHF alumni veterans at Springfield airport. Bortolon urged, "Let's give our veterans the welcome home they earned, deserved and never received."

LLHF, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, stands on donations, sponsorships, and local support. Operating entirely through volunteers, it upholds the ethos of service and remembrance. As Bortolon stated, "This is your time to be honored." Veterans can apply via www.LandofLincolnHonorFlight.org.
