After nearly 20 years of service, Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) President Charlotte Warren, Ph.D., has announced she will retire in June 2026. Warren, the college’s sixth president, shared the news during LLCC’s annual convocation on Aug. 22.

"Serving our students and strengthening the communities we call home has been a privilege beyond measure. I am deeply proud of all that LLCC’s students, faculty, staff, alumni and community leaders have accomplished and continue to accomplish together. LLCC is an institution of learning and so much more. It’s a place where dreams take root and bright futures take shape,” Warren told faculty and staff.

Since taking office in 2006, Warren has overseen a period of significant growth and transformation. The college has added four new facilities and renovated nine others across its 15-county district. Her tenure includes securing millions of dollars in gift and grant funding, highlighted by an $18 million gift to benefit LLCC’s agriculture program and a partnership with Memorial Health to construct a Nursing Education Center within Montgomery Hall. She also broadened academic offerings, expanded workforce training and health care programs, and deepened partnerships with local and state leaders to address community needs.

"Dr. Warren leaves a legacy that will shape our college for generations to come,” said Rep. Wayne Rosenthal, chair of the LLCC Board of Trustees. "She has been a tireless advocate for student success, innovation and excellence. Her visionary leadership has fueled transformative projects across the college and expanded meaningful connections with community partners. We are deeply grateful for her service and look forward to honoring the remarkable progress achieved during her time here.”

Warren’s leadership extends beyond LLCC. She currently serves on the board of the American Association of Community Colleges, is past president of the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents, and holds local board roles with HSHS St. John’s Hospital and the Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance. Her community service also includes leadership with the Mid-Illinois Medical District, United Way of Central Illinois, and the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce.

Before joining LLCC, Warren served as president of the Community College Alliance and vice president of the Virtual Campus at Franklin University in Ohio. She also held academic and administrative roles at Georgia Perimeter College and worked in nursing, psychotherapy, and professional associations. A retired Colonel and Honorary Brigadier General of the Georgia National Guard, Warren also served on the Reserve Forces Policy Board in Washington, D.C.

Her retirement will conclude a distinguished career in higher education and public service that has left a lasting impact on both students and the wider community.
