Matthew Montgomery, of Chatham, has been named the recipient of the 2024 Illinois Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) Award, recognizing his outstanding expertise and service in nutrient management and crop production.
The CCA Award, presented by the Illinois Farm Bureau and the Certified Crop Adviser Board, highlights individuals who demonstrate innovation and superior service in areas such as nutrient management, soil and water management, integrated pest management, and crop production.
Montgomery has emerged as a leader in the study of red crown rot in soybeans, a disease often misidentified in recent years. His research has increased awareness and spurred an agriscience company to invest in new management practices for the disease.
Beyond his research, Montgomery supports growers in their daily decision-making processes, offering guidance during critical planting, growing, and harvesting stages. He also shares his expertise with agronomy students at Western Illinois University and mentors aspiring agronomists through job shadowing opportunities.
Montgomery will be honored at the Illinois Agricultural Association Annual Meeting and the Illinois CCA Conference. As the state award recipient, he is also in contention for the prestigious International CCA Award.
