Man Arrested for Springfield Shooting

On October 3, Springfield Police responded to the 1600 block of E. Reynolds Street for a ShotSpotter alert. Upon arrival officers located a male victim who had a gunshot wound to the hip.


The suspect had fled from the scene, but officers were able to obtain a suspect description to include his name. The victim was transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.


The Criminal Investigations Division responded to process the scene and further investigate the incident. Later that afternoon, the suspect, identified as Tyrese K. Thornton, 20, of Springfield, was taken into custody with the assistance of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.


Thornton was taken into custody without incident and is currently at the Sangamon County Jail. He was arrested for aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm-no foid, and domestic battery. The firearm used in the shooting was recovered.
