A man has been charged in connection with a fire that left dozens of residents displaced from a Springfield condo complex. The Springfield Fire Department reported that fire crews responded to the blaze on Taylor Avenue at approximately 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Cyrus Banks appeared in court on Thursday, facing charges of aggravated arson, residential arson, and criminal damage to property. Banks, who is currently in custody at the Sangamon County Jail, was denied pre-trial release and is scheduled to appear in court again on January 16. An order for an Examination of Fitness has also been filed.

The fire affected the attic space of a three-story multi-residential condo complex containing 36 units. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. No injuries were reported, and there is currently no estimate of the damage.
