This week, meet Gizmo.

Gizmo is a young Domestic Shorthair cat looking for a new family to call his own. The large male cat is estimated to be between 1 and 3 years old and has a short brown tabby coat. He is currently available for adoption through the Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center.

Gizmo is described as friendly, affectionate and litter trained. He is already neutered and vaccinated and is listed as having no special needs. His compatibility with children, dogs, cats and other animals is currently unknown. Those interested in adopting him can contact Sangamon County Animal Control to learn more about his personality, ask questions and determine whether he might be a good fit for their home.

Gizmo is one of several dogs and cats currently waiting for homes at the Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center.

Animals adopted through the center are vaccinated, spayed or neutered and microchipped before adoption. Cat adoptions also typically include a rabies vaccination, microchip registration, routine vaccinations and worming. Cats older than three months are tested for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV).

Gizmo's adoption fee is currently listed at $35. Eligible animals are adopted on a first-come, first-served basis after they have been cleared by the center's veterinarian for adoption.

Anyone interested in meeting or adopting Gizmo can visit the Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center at 2100 Shale Street in Springfield. The center is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Adoption services end 15 minutes before the facility closes.

Prospective adopters can also contact Sangamon County Animal Control at 217-535-3065 for information about Gizmo or the adoption process. Those interested in Gizmo can also view his profile and submit an adoption inquiry through his Petfinder listing.
