The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office has announced a new community outreach initiative called “Sheriff on the Square,” aimed at creating informal opportunities for residents to engage with members of the department.

The series is designed to promote open communication and relationship-building between the public and law enforcement personnel, including deputies, correctional officers, court security staff, and administrative team members.

Modeled after similar programs such as "Coffee with a Cop," the gatherings will take place at various locations across Sangamon County throughout the summer. Residents will be invited to stop by for a cold drink or frozen treat, play games like bags, and participate in outdoor activities.

The first event is scheduled for Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. on the Square in Pawnee. Representatives from multiple divisions of the Sheriff’s Office, including the recruitment team, will be in attendance.

“Being available and approachable is important to our office. We want these events to be a fun, relaxed way for people to get to know us. My team and I look forward to meeting members of the community, answering questions, and listening to what’s on your mind,” said Sheriff Paula Crouch.
