For the first time in over 35 years, Sangamon County Republicans have one of our own running for statewide elected office. John Milhiser, former Sangamon County State's Attorney and United States Attorney, is a candidate for Secretary of State. John has dedicated his life to public service and the residents of Sangamon County. He is an excellent candidate to lead the second-largest constitutional office in Illinois. “I’m running because I want to restore integrity to state government,” Milhiser told a crowd 200 supporters gathered for a recent statewide campaign kick off, “Since I left the US Attorney’s Office, I have been teaching government to high school students. And let me tell you, our young people don’t believe our elected leaders care about them. I want to restore confidence in government, and that starts by operating with integrity in everything you do.” Before facing the Pritzker-Madigan machine, John must win the June Republican Primary. “John is the only candidate with the experience and the record to compete in a general election,” says Sangamon County Republican Chairman Dianne Bargouti-Hardwick. Milhiser has a decades-long history of investigating and overseeing corruption cases, sixteen years prosecuting serious felonies in Sangamon County, and received unanimous confirmation by the United States Senate to serve as United States Attorney for the Central District of Illinois after being selected by President Donald Trump. Chicago Democrats funded by Pritzker & Madigan will stop at nothing to stay in power; they have already begun bankrolling two potential November challengers. “John can’t win without the strong support of our local organization,” Barougoutti-Hardwick stated, “I strongly urge everyone in our party to support John financially at a major fundraiser scheduled just prior to the critical March 30 reporting deadline. According to Barghouti, an extremely large coalition of local party leaders has come together to sponsor this fundraiser for Milhiser. The event is planned for Sunday March 22 from 5pm to 7pm at The Illini Country Club. Tickets are $250 per person. “I can’t overstate what it would mean to our local party and to our community to have a leader like John Milhiser, a home town candidate, in the Secretary of State’s office. I sincerely hope everyone will get out and support John’s fundraiser this week.
