Murder Suspect in Custody; Bond set at $2 Million

On August 14, Springfield Police officers responded to the 1100 block of north 8th Street for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival the officers located the victim who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Officers on scene provided life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived. The victim was transported to HSHS St. Johns Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Decody Stamps (male, 35-years-old) of Springfield was taken into custody within an hour of the incident. He was subsequently arrested for first degree murder and transported to the Sangamon County Jail. Today, Stamps was charged with three counts of first degree murder by Sangamon County States Attorney Dan Wright. He remains in custody with bond set at $2 million.
