The First Citizen Award program has been revamped for the first time in 61 years. Established in 1963 by Springfield's Copley-owned newspapers, this award honors individuals who have made significant, selfless contributions to improving the Springfield community.
Now managed by a nonprofit organization, the program is supported by local sponsors, including banks, medical institutions, businesses, and local government. The award recognizes individuals who dedicate their time and energy to making Springfield a better place beyond their professional responsibilities.
Nominations are open online until October 15 at www.firstcitizenaward.org, with the winner announced at a free event on November 13 at Erin's Pavilion in Southwind Park. Tickets are required for entry.
