The Sangamon County Board is searching for qualified candidates to assume the position of Sangamon County Circuit Clerk following the upcoming departure of the current Circuit Clerk, Paul Palazzolo, effective October 1, 2023.
Palazzolo, who has served the citizens of Sangamon County, first as County Auditor and then as Circuit Clerk, leaves behind a legacy of community service. A lifelong resident of Springfield, he has been actively involved in various endeavors, particularly within the Kiwanis Club of Springfield-Downtown and the Sangamon County Republican Party. His contributions to the local community and global level have earned prestigious recognitions and accolades.
Palazzolo accepted the position of Executive Director at Kiwanis International, a renowned global community of clubs, members, and partners united by a shared vision of transforming children's lives, one community at a time. With over 550,000 members spanning across 80 countries and geographic areas, Kiwanis encompasses a diverse range of age groups, from K-Kids to Key Club to Kiwanis. Palazzolo anticipates leading and supporting the nearly 150,000 service projects hosted by Kiwanis clubs each year.
The Sangamon County Board Chairman must nominate an individual to fill the vacancy within 60 days, subject to confirmation by the County Board. The appointed candidate will serve until the next general election on November 5, 2024. To be eligible for the position, the appointee must be a Sangamon County resident and a member of the Republican party, consistent with Mr. Palazzolo's affiliation at the time of his last election.
Prospective candidates meeting the criteria are encouraged to submit their resumes, letters of interest, and any supporting material, including letters of recommendation, via email to County@co.sangamon.il.us or in-person to the Sangamon County Board Office at the temporary address: Sangamon South Building, 300 S 9th St Floor #2 (Former State Journal-Register Building). The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. The successor will be nominated and confirmed during the County Board Meeting scheduled for August 8, 2023.
