Welcome to Reel Time Rewind, where each month we revisit an iconic film from all genres—whether it's a timeless classic, an unforgettable action blockbuster, or a heart-wrenching drama. We celebrate the films that have made a lasting impact, revisiting the stories, performances, and moments that continue to resonate with audiences long after their release. This month, we’re taking a look at a film from June 2001: Jurassic Park III—the third installment in the Jurassic Park franchise that continued the saga of dinosaurs and human survival. Directed by Joe Johnston, this film once again takes audiences to the island of Isla Sorna, where the dangers of cloning and resurrecting prehistoric creatures have only gotten worse.
Jurassic Park III follows Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), the paleontologist from the original film, who is reluctantly brought back to Isla Sorna by a wealthy couple searching for their lost son. What ensues is a thrilling adventure filled with heart-pounding dinosaur encounters and a deeper dive into the dangers of mankind’s tampering with nature. While it didn’t capture the same magic as the first Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III still delivered the action-packed excitement that fans craved.
What made this film stand out was its relentless action and visual effects, as well as its deeper exploration of the ethics surrounding cloning. While it didn’t match the groundbreaking nature of Steven Spielberg’s original, it still continued to expand the Jurassic Park universe, setting the stage for future films in the franchise.
Nearly two decades later, Jurassic Park III is still remembered for its thrilling sequences and iconic dinosaurs. It might not be the most beloved of the series, but it remains a fun, fast-paced ride that appeals to fans of the franchise and newcomers alike. If you’re a fan of dinosaurs, adventure, and big-screen spectacle, Jurassic Park III is definitely worth a revisit.
You can stream Jurassic Park III on Peacock or rent it on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, or YouTube.
