Live theater returns to the heart of Springfield as Shakespeare in the Park makes its second annual appearance at Enos Park on Friday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26. Presented by the Springfield Area Arts Council (SAAC) in partnership with Downtown Springfield, Inc. and the Springfield Park District, the free, family-friendly event will feature professional performances by the Starling Shakespeare Company.

The park, located at 1000 N. 7th Street in Springfield, will open at 6:00 PM each night, with shows starting promptly at 6:30 PM. On Friday, July 25, the company will perform The Comedy of Errors, a fast-paced production incorporating playful puppetry and humor designed to appeal to all ages. On Saturday, July 26, the troupe will present Hamlet.

In the event of rain, performances will move indoors to Third Presbyterian Church at 1030 N. 7th Street.

Admission is free, with VIP tickets available for $25. VIP ticket holders receive front-row seating while supporting the continuation of Shakespeare in the Park and SAAC’s broader mission to bring accessible arts programming to the community.

Food and refreshments will be available on-site from vendors such as Kona Ice, the Hot Dog Pusher, and concessions provided by the Enos Park Neighborhood Association. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own picnics or takeout from local restaurants.

"Shakespeare in the Park is all about building community through the arts,” said Bella Szabo, Executive Director of SAAC. "It’s a chance for people to gather with family and friends to experience live theatre in a relaxed and welcoming outdoor setting.”

The program highlights a growing collaboration between community organizations dedicated to enriching Springfield’s cultural landscape. The Starling Shakespeare Company, known for its innovative interpretations, aims to make Shakespeare’s works accessible and enjoyable for modern audiences.

RSVPs and VIP ticket purchases can be made online. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an evening of entertainment under the open sky.
