Sheriff's Office Joins 'Click It or Ticket' Campaign

In an effort to enhance road safety during the upcoming Memorial Day holiday season, the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office has declared its commitment to an intensified enforcement campaign known as "Click It or Ticket." Running through May 30, the initiative aims to encourage motorists to buckle up for their own protection.

The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office underscores the critical importance of fastening seat belts on every occasion. Studies have shown that utilizing seat belts can reduce the risk of fatal injuries by an impressive 45%, and unbelted occupants account for over half of all fatalities in motor vehicle accidents. While seat belts prove their efficacy in saving lives daily, their potential impact remains unrealized unless consistently employed. It is a disheartening reality that such tragedies can be prevented by the simple act of clicking one's seat belt.

"Seat belts have demonstrated their life-saving capabilities in the event of a crash,” said Sheriff Jack Campbell. “Regrettably, many individuals still neglect to buckle up, setting a poor example for younger generations who may follow suit."

The "Click It or Ticket" campaign, which serves as a call to action, is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with the support of federal highway safety funds. The program's comprehensive approach incorporates intensified law enforcement efforts alongside educational initiatives to reinforce the importance of seat belt usage.
