As Sangamon County residents gear up for Fourth of July celebrations, the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging everyone to celebrate responsibly and prioritize safety throughout the holiday weekend.

Whether attending fireworks shows, hosting cookouts, or traveling to see loved ones, Sheriff Paula Crouch is urging the community to make smart choices and look out for one another.

“We want everyone to enjoy the Fourth of July,” said Sheriff Crouch. “Being responsible is an important part of that, whether you’re using fireworks, grilling, or driving. Take a moment to think about your actions, look out for others, and help make this a safe and enjoyable holiday for all.”

The Sheriff’s Office is emphasizing the importance of safe driving, reminding residents never to operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Officials recommend planning ahead by designating a sober driver or arranging alternative transportation.

Firework safety is also a major concern. While fireworks are a long-standing tradition, they should always be used with caution. The Sheriff’s Office advises following all safety instructions, maintaining a safe distance, and supervising children closely around any fireworks.

To help ensure a safe weekend, the Sheriff’s Office will have increased patrols throughout Sangamon County during the holiday. Residents are encouraged to enjoy the festivities safely and responsibly.
