SHS Students Return Following Bomb Threat Evacuation

On Friday morning, February 2, Springfield High School received a call from a crisis helpline, reporting a potential threat of explosive devices on the premises.

School officials quickly evacuated students, and parents were informed. Springfield Police conducted a thorough investigation and K9 searches, ultimately declaring the building safe.

Students returned with additional security measures, entering through metal detectors overseen by law enforcement. In a statement, authorities, including the Springfield Police Department, Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, and State’s Attorney John Milhiser, said they are committed to taking all threats seriously within District 186 and Sangamon County.
