Sangamon County Board Member Todd Smith announced his intentions to resign from the County Board after 16 years of service.

Smith said, "After much deliberation and discussions with my family, I have decided to resign from the Sangamon County Board at the end of May to focus on my private-sector business full-time. It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Sangamon County."

Reflecting on his time in office, Smith said, "Sangamon County has always been my home, and it's been an honor to serve District Two. Thank you to my constituents for support and encouragement throughout the years and for allowing me to represent you. The board is filled with some of the best, and I will continue to call many of them friends. During my time on the board, I saw the daily work in our County and the dedication of our County employees to provide quality services to our community. I am thankful for the relationships and the positive change and growth we brought to Sangamon County."

Sangamon County Board Chairman Andy Van Meter thanked Smith for his service to the County, "On behalf of the Sangamon County Board, I want to thank Todd for his 16 years of service. He has always proven to be thoughtful, respectful, and willing to take on a challenge when they arise.
