Son Arrested for Mother's Murder

The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in connection to the homicide that occurred in the 3100 block of West Aire Road last week. Donna Romine was found deceased inside her residence on April 27, 2023, after friends went several days without hearing from her. The victim's son, Richard D. Romine, was identified as a person of interest and was located early the following morning by detectives.


Richard D. Romine, a 34-year-old resident of the West Aire Road address in Springfield, was arrested today at 1:13 p.m. and taken to the Sangamon County Jail. The Sheriff's Office Investigations Division, in collaboration with the Sangamon County State's Attorney's Office, obtained an arrest warrant for Richard Romine. He has been charged with three counts of First Degree Murder, one count of Concealment of a Homicidal Death, one count of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and one count of Aggravated Fleeing & Eluding.


During his arraignment, Richard Romine's bond was set at $2,000,000, and he remains incarcerated at the Sangamon County Jail.





The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office has not disclosed any details surrounding the motive of the homicide or the specific events that led to the arrest of Richard D. Romine. The Sheriff's Office says the investigation is ongoing, and they will provide updates as new information becomes available.
