SPD Arrests Three for Firearm-Related Crimes

On September 9th, the Springfield Police Department Street Crimes Unit and numerous patrol officers executed a search warrant in the 1800 block of S. Wirt Ave. Officers had been made aware of this residence after a dog was reportedly stolen by several people, one of whom was armed with a firearm. Prior to the search warrant being served, one subject was apprehended outside on the front porch area. The rest of the occupants of the house were detained without incident. Seven guns, including an AK-47 pistol with a drum magazine and a semi-automatic rifle with a drum magazine, were recovered from the residence. The following individuals were arrested:




  • Breion M. Edwards (male, 19 years old of Springfield) was arrested for possession of stolen firearm, possession of firearm (No Foid), theft and cruel treatment to animals.


  • ï‚· Dametris D. Nelson (male, 20 years old of Springfield) was arrested for possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm (No Foid)



  • ï‚· Darryl A. Spratt (male, 40 years old of Springfield) was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon on person/vehicle, mob action, theft, possession of a firearm (No Foid)

  • ï‚· Jaiylen J. Plato (male, 19 years old of Springfield) was arrested for possession of a firearm (No Foid), aggravated unlawful use of a weapon on person/vehicle, and a Saline County arrest warrant for aggravated assault of a police officer.


All arrestees are in custody at the Sangamon County Jail awaiting formal charges from the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
