On June 2, 2024 at approximately 2:02 a.m., the Springfield Police Department Street Crimes Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of York and Taylor Avenue. The officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle who were identified as Corey M. Ballard, 18, and 3 male juveniles. As officers were speaking with the occupants they observed an open bottle of alcohol and could smell the odor of cannabis.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located a Taurus 9mm pistol that was equipped with an extended magazine under the passenger seat. Upon searching one of the juveniles, officers recovered a Glock 48 9mm pistol that was also equipped with an extended magazine. Once the traffic stop was completed a juvenile male and Ballard were both arrested.
Ballard was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon on a person, unlawful possession of firearms and firearm ammunition, and possession of a firearm –No FOID.
