SPD Arrests Two on Weapons and Narcotics Charges

On August 2, 2024 at approximately 8:20 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Department Street Crimes Unit conducted a search warrant in the 2800 block of Clearlake Avenue with the assistance of the SPD Emergency Response Team. Upon completion of the search, the following items were recovered and seized: 2 fully automatic AK rifles, 1 AR-style rifle, and three pistols, one of which was equipped with a switch conversion kit. Officers also located approximately 28 grams of crack cocaine and five bottles of promethazine.


Darnell Wilson Jr. (male, 20 years old) of Springfield was arrested for unlawful possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, manufacture and delivery of cocaine, possession of a machine gun automatic weapon, and possession of a firearms-no FOID.





Kevin A. Spearman Jr. (male, 19 years old) of Springfield was arrested for unlawful possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, armed violence, unlawful use of a weapon-machine gun, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen firearm.





Both Wilson and Spearman remain in the Sangamon County Jail.


The Street Crimes Unit is responsible for investigating gang and gun violence throughout Springfield. Additionally, they play a vital role in community engagement, working to educate our youth about the dangers of gangs and gun violence. The Springfield Police Department Street Crimes Unit has proven instrumental in making Springfield a safer community, as this case led to the recovery of five illegal firearms.
