Springfield Police Department Assistant Chief Joseph Behl has graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, joining an elite group of law enforcement professionals from across the country.

Behl was a member of the academy’s 293rd session, which concluded this month. The rigorous 10-week program provides advanced training in leadership, communication, and fitness, with less than one percent of law enforcement officers nationwide selected to attend.

The 293rd session included 244 officers from 48 states, the District of Columbia, and agencies in 24 countries, as well as representatives from 11 military organizations and four federal civilian agencies. Since its founding in 1935, the FBI National Academy has graduated over 54,000 law enforcement professionals.

Assistant Chief Behl’s 18-year career with the Springfield Police Department reflects his dedication to public service and commitment to enhancing public safety. His successful completion of the academy equips him with valuable knowledge and strategies that will contribute to officer development and community policing initiatives in Springfield.

The FBI National Academy is internationally recognized for its academic excellence, and graduates often go on to serve in top leadership roles within their respective agencies. The training is conducted at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where FBI special agents and intelligence analysts receive their instruction.
