Sangamon County law enforcement officials have apprehended a couple on charges of aggravated battery to a minor under 13 years old. The incident came to light when the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office received a child abuse report on August 18th, originating from a residence situated in the 400 block of North Daniel in Springfield.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services had alerted the Sheriff's Office to the situation after uncovering evidence that a minor child was enduring both physical and mental abuse within the confines of the household.
Promptly taking action, detectives from the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office initiated a collaborative investigation in partnership with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and the Sangamon County Child Advocacy Center. In an effort to gather evidence, a search warrant was secured for the residence, culminating in the confiscation of in-home surveillance cameras on August 23rd.
The Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office issued arrest warrants for the two adults who were residing in the residence. The accused individuals were identified as Randy J. Rogers, aged 35, and Ashley M. Rogers, aged 31. Both shared an address in the 400 block of North Daniel.
The couple was charged with three counts of Aggravated Battery to a minor under 13 years old each. Law enforcement apprehended Randy J. Rogers and Ashley M. Rogers at their residence at approximately 3:30 p.m., and they were subsequently transported to the Sangamon County Jail.
Randy J. Rogers and Ashley M. Rogers remain incarcerated, with bonds set at $200,000 each.
