A shooting incident unfolded Monday evening in Springfield’s 2200 block of South 14th Street, leaving one person dead and two others wounded. The violence prompted a significant response from local law enforcement.

Authorities say the shooting occurred around 5:50 p.m., leading to a heavy police presence and a full-scale investigation. Yellow police tape cordoned off the scene as squads, fire trucks, and officers, including deputies from the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, arrived to secure the area and gather evidence. Observers reported that a police drone hovered overhead for approximately 40 minutes while officers documented the scene through photographs.

The three victims were transported to a nearby hospital. Tragically, one of them, identified as 18-year-old Ayden Randall Paige of Rochester, succumbed to his injuries. Paige was pronounced dead at 6:52 p.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital shortly after his arrival. An autopsy conducted Tuesday confirmed he died from a single gunshot wound, according to Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon. The other two victims sustained injuries that have been described as non-life-threatening.

This week, Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Springfield Police Department in reference to the homicide. If photos become available, they will be posted on the Crime Stoppers website, cashfortips.us. Anyone who can identify a suspect, suspects, or any vehicle involved is urged to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 217-788-8427, submit a tip at cashfortips.us, or use the P3 mobile app. If your tip results in an arrest, you could receive a cash reward of up to $5,000. Remember, Crime Stoppers only wants your information, not your name.

The investigation remains ongoing by the Springfield Police Department and the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office.
