Springfield Police Investigate Deadly Holly Drive Shooting

The Sangamon County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who died following a shooting early Saturday morning in Springfield.


According to Coroner Jim Allmon, the victim has been identified as 36-year-old Rekeea Jackson-Mason of Chatham. She was transported by EMS to HSHS St. John’s Hospital after being found with a gunshot wound at a residence on Holly Drive. She was pronounced deceased by hospital staff at 4:08 a.m. on July 19, shortly after her arrival.


An autopsy was conducted the following day, and preliminary results indicate that Jackson-Mason died as a result of a gunshot wound. The incident remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office and the Springfield Police Department.


Springfield Police responded to the 1900 block of Holly Drive at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Saturday for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located Jackson-Mason and provided medical assistance before transporting her to the hospital. Police detectives and crime scene investigators processed the scene and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.


Authorities state that the investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available.
