Track by Track is a monthly series that revisits iconic albums and dives deep into their music and legacy. For October, we turn our attention to Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette, released in 1995. This album was a defining moment in '90s music, blending alternative rock with deeply personal lyrics that resonated with a generation.

Tracks like “You Oughta Know,” “Hand in My Pocket,” and “Ironic” became anthems for both the disillusioned and empowered. Morissette’s raw, confessional songwriting—combined with her powerful, unrelenting vocals—struck a chord with listeners who were looking for music that expressed both frustration and liberation. Jagged Little Pill became a cultural phenomenon, an album that marked a shift in how women’s voices were heard in the rock and pop worlds.

The album’s mix of acoustic and electric instrumentation helped it cross genres, while Morissette’s vulnerability and emotional depth made it feel authentic and groundbreaking. It’s one of the best-selling albums of all time, winning Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. Jagged Little Pill remains a testament to the power of music as a form of self-expression.

Jagged Little Pill is available for streaming, digital download, and physical purchase, including expanded editions with bonus tracks.
