A six-day joint traffic enforcement operation in Sangamon County led to 31 arrests, multiple firearm and drug seizures, and hundreds of citations, according to the Illinois State Police (ISP).
The detail, conducted in partnership with the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office and the Springfield Police Department, targeted areas with high crash fatalities, elevated crime rates, and interstate routes commonly used by organized violent offenders and criminal groups operating in and around Springfield.
Over the course of the operation, officers issued 385 citations and made 31 arrests. Authorities filed a total of 52 criminal charges, including 26 felony counts. Six firearms were seized, and one stolen vehicle was recovered.
Drug seizures included 44 pounds of cocaine and more than 1,450 pounds of illegal cannabis.
ISP officials said the coordinated effort underscores their ongoing commitment to disrupting criminal activity and improving public safety. “ISP is proud to work with our law enforcement partners to make our community a safer place,” the agency said in a statement.
