Two Arrested in Shots Fired Incident

On Monday, November 27, officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to the 3200 block of Singer Avenue for the report of gunshots being fired. Upon arrival, the officers reviewed video surveillance in the area that showed a subject exiting a room of the Red Roof Inn and firing multiple gunshots into the air.

The officers made contact with several subjects inside the room, including Walter Geovanni Arteta-Gonzalez, 32, of St. Louis, Missouri, and Santos Fernando Zepeda-Arteta, 20, also from St. Louis, Missouri. The investigation revealed a loaded Glock 19 pistol along with a loaded Springfield Armory Hellcat that had been reported stolen out of St. Louis, Missouri. Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Sangamon County Jail pending formal charges by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office.


Waler Geovanni Arteta-Gonzalez was arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm- NO FOID.


Santos Fernando Zepeda-Arteta was arrested for possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm- No FOID.
