UIS Tops Public Regional University Rankings

In the 2024 Best Colleges rankings released by U.S. News & World Report, the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) has once again claimed the top spot as the leading public regional university in Illinois, marking the fifth consecutive year of this achievement. UIS also secured the sixth position among public regional universities in the Midwest regional category.

Janet L. Gooch, UIS Chancellor, expressed pride in the university's consistent recognition as a top public institution and believes the ranking reaffirms UIS's commitment to student success, offering a high-quality education whether through online courses or on-campus study, supported by a dedicated faculty and staff.

U.S. News & World Report based its rankings on several key factors, including graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, academic reputation, financial resources for students, high school academic performance, alumni contributions, and graduate indebtedness.

UIS also received recognition in additional categories, including ninth place for Best Value Schools in the Midwest regional category and the tenth spot among Best Colleges for Veterans in the same region. UIS ranks 43rd out of 164 institutions for enabling students from diverse backgrounds to pursue higher education through Pell Grants.
