Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed the death of a Wood River woman following a car crash in southern Springfield on Sunday.
Coroner Allmon said the crash occurred on East Lake Shore Drive. The woman, 56 years old, was a passenger in the vehicle. EMS transported the victim to HSHS St. John’s, where she was pronounced dead at 2:12 p.m.
The woman's identity is being withheld until the family can be properly notified. Allmon said an autopsy has been scheduled for this week.
The death remains under the investigation of the Sangamon County Coroner and the Springfield Police Department.
