Sangamon County State’s Attorney Dan Wright secures court order denying bail to Auburn Man Charged with Murder in deadly drunk driving incident on I-55
Shane J. Woods of Auburn was indicted by a Sangamon County Grand Jury on charges of First Degree Murder, Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, and Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding a Peace Officer. Woods is accused of intentionally driving the wrong way on Interstate 55 on the evening of November 8, 2022, striking two other vehicles. The collision caused the death of the driver of one vehicle from Skokie, Illinois and great bodily harm to the driver and passenger of another vehicle from Granite City. If convicted, Woods faces potential prison time in excess of 60 years.
Wright secured the indictment on November 16th, and denial of bail following Woods’ arraignment on November 17th. Woods next court appearance is scheduled for November 28th before Circuit Judge Gail Noll.
