The Henson Robinson Zoo has brought back its popular Zoo Lights event, offering visitors the chance to enjoy the zoo’s grounds illuminated by thousands of lights and festive displays.
The event opened over Thanksgiving weekend and drew a steady stream of attendees. Guests explored the zoo’s pathways lined with twinkling lights and animated displays, accompanied by holiday music provided by Cool 93.9.
Zoo Lights will continue throughout December on the following dates:
Thursday, December 5 – Sunday, December 8
Thursday, December 12 – Sunday, December 18
Week of Christmas: December 19 – 23
Hours are from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with last admission at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for children aged 3 to 12. Children aged 2 and under can attend for free. Visitors can also purchase 3-D glasses to enhance their view of the light displays.
The event provides an opportunity to see several zoo animals, including red wolves, cougars, African Painted Dogs, and birds of prey, which remain active during the winter.
The zoo has noted that Zoo Lights is weather-dependent. In case of freezing rain or heavy snow, updates on closures will be posted on the Henson Robinson Zoo’s Facebook page or provided by phone at (217) 585-1821.
The Henson Robinson Zoo is located at 1100 East Lake Drive in Springfield. For more details, visit the Springfield Park District’s website.
