7-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Residential Pool

The Springfield Police Department is investigating the drowning of a 7-year-old boy at a Winnebago Dr. residence on Saturday, March 16th.


Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed the boy's death. He was transported by EMS to HSHS St. John’s Hospital Emergency Room from the 2300 block of Winnebago Drive after being found unresponsive in a pool.


The child was pronounced deceased at 1 p.m. shortly after arrival at the hospital.


Preliminary findings from an autopsy conducted on Monday suggest drowning as the cause of death, according to the coroner.


The Springfield Police Department and the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.
